For State Representative, District 47
We must insure that every Floridian is treated fairly no matter of their race, gender, or sexual orientation.
This is the foundation of every great society. Probably the single most important issue that has to stop being cut with every legislative session. It is a right for the children of our state to get their first class education and also to have all the opportunities and tools to be successful. Educational reform is needed in this state and for many of the issues we face, more money is not always going to be the answer. With that said, we need to make sure that we give our schools the needed tools and resources to educate our children no matter what the cost may be.
This is always going to be a major concern as Florida continues to grow. We must look at these projects as investments to help commerce grow within our community. This can be an easy tool to create great new jobs by attracting new businesses to the area which had never given us consideration before. This is an issue that directly affects us on a day to day basis and needs to be addressed immediately.
Healthcare problems are what politicians have based entire campaigns on while the rest of us have to live with there broken promises. We can't afford another campaign issue that only achieved a victory for the candidate and not for the people that they were voted to represent. We should be the leaders in healthcare reform because it is such a major issue in our state. We should be investing in research on new financially efficient ways to reform our outdated system.
This is something that should also not feel the effects of a bad economy. Our safety and well being should never be cut or compromised. We have to find other alternatives then cutting programs that keep our neighborhoods safe and secure. Our safety and well being is indeed important and even though the government may be short on money, we still need to make sure that our officers and departments have the right and necessary tools to get the job done efficiently.
This becomes more complicated during slow economic times. Property taxes along with homeowners insurance need to be broadly structured so that we are not placing an unnecessary financial burden on the middle class, which is the driving force behind any great economy. We have to make sure that Floridians have transparency with their tax dollars, and be informed on where public funds are being cut or added for each bill passed. We need to ensure that we are not shifting the tax burden to the families and households that are feeling the effects of our troubling economy the most.
This is the most essential area to correct during hard economic times. This is where the common sense solutions could really be put to some use. Every family budget changes during difficult times and it would be foolish to think that our states budget is any different. Out-dated programs and unnecessary expenditures have to be discontinued during these hard economic times. We need to understand that every dollar spent wastefully is one dollar less to our education and public safety programs.
